Electronic Arts, the publisher of popular video games like FIFA, Battlefield and others have been hacked. The hackers have stolen the source code for the popular game FIFA 2021 and the engine and source code for Frostbite.

According Motherboard, hackers a trying to sell over 850GB of data stolen from Electronic Arts. The have shown their potential buyers screen shots from the data in their possession.

Electronic Arts is one of the leading video game publishers with several popular games to its name. Apart from FIFA 2021 and Frostbite source code, the hackers are said to have taken other assets such as software development kits.

This year hackers have escalated their attacks on corporations and EA might just be the latest but not the only victim. Even the gaming world alone, other big names have been hacked. CD Project Red, the publishers of Cyberpunk 2077 were hacked. In this case, the company was hit by a ransomware which allowed the hackers to obtain and eventually sell the source code for Cyberpunk 2077.

Electronic Arts has confirmed to Motherboard that they have been hacked.

We are investigating a recent incident of intrusion into our network where a limited amount of game source code and related tools were stolen,

No player data was accessed, and we have no reason to believe there is any risk to player privacy. Following the incident, we’ve already made security improvements and do not expect an impact on our games or our business. We are actively working with law enforcement officials and other experts as part of this ongoing criminal investigation.
